Summary
Resident of Virginia; deaf at 18 months from whooping cough; graduated the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, Staunton, in 1908. Married Mary Agnew Scott in 1912. Taught at the Virginia School for the Deaf, Hampton, 1909-1919, then at Stanton 1925 until retirement in 1959. Invented an alarm clock that turned on a lamp at a pre-set time. Wrote and published History of the Education of the Deaf in Virginia (1948). An active scoutmaster for a deaf Boy Scout troop, seeing 21 of his boys reach Eagle Scout rank.
