Summary
Deafened at age 9; attended the American School for the deaf, graduating in 1863. B.A. from Gallaudet in 1869; thereafter, held various teaching positions at Gallaudet for the rest of his life, culminating in the rank of full professor. He introduced the sport of football to Gallaudet College. Gallaudet University's football field is named in his honor.
