Summary
Born at Springfield, MO; deaf from catarrh fever by age 2. Went to the Chicago Day Schools for the deaf, then to the Chicago Oral School, leaving at age 14 to enter his father's business in the manufacture of bookbinding and special machinery. Winner of the Chicago bicycle road race of 1895.
