Summary
Born deaf; educated at the Glasgow Institution for the Deaf and Dumb. Emigrated to Canada and studied law there, then passsed the Ontario law exam to become the first born-deaf lawyer in North America. Trinity law student, 1860; qualified as a solicitor, 1863; practiced in eastern Ontario, sometimes with his deaf younger brother Duncan MacLellan, in Belleville, Campbellford, and Trenton.
