Summary
Born deaf to deaf parents (father was Ralph R. Miller sr., q.v.); attended Northbrook High School, IL, and graduated Gallaudet College in 1957. Worked as an illustrator for Reuben Donnelley Corp. for several years, then joined the Gallaudet faculty. M.F.A. (1963) from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, and doctorate in art education (1976) from Pennsylvania State University. (She is said to be the first deaf female Gallaudet alumna to earn a doctorate.) Involved with drama at Gallaudet and with the National Theatre of the Deaf. Produces and exhibits art works in various media, and has illustrated several books. Dubbed the "mother" of the De'VIA (Deaf View Image Art) art movement that was born in 1989.
