Summary
Born on a Kansas farm; deafened at age 12. Graduated the Kansas School for the Deaf; B.A., M.A., and honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (1942) from Gallaudet College. Supervisor of boys, then teacher and head teacher at the Kansas School for the Deaf. Secretary-treasurer of the National Association of the Deaf, 1913-1923, and president 1923-1930; held various positions in the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, culminating in grand president, 1931-1957. Married Ida Wiedenmeir, a graduate of the Ohio School for the Deaf and of Gallaudet College, in 1907.
