Cheung, Michael

Born in an unidentified Asian country and emigrated to the U.S. Long interested in the food service business and already an experienced cook, he saw an advertisement in a Chinese-language newspaper for a restaurant space for lease in San Leandro, CA. After being rejected several times because of his deafness, he finally persuaded the owner to give him a chance. He opened his own restaurant in that space, employing three other employees, both deaf and hearing.
