Summary
Graduate of the Missouri School; B.S. 1882, M.S. 1885, and honorary D.Sc., 1904, from Gallaudet; M.S. from University of Michigan. Chief chemist of the Indiana Harbor Works, American Steel Foundries, U.S. Steel Corp.; specialized in metallurgy. Helped found the National Association of the Deaf, and served as its first secretary as well as, later, vice president. Served as chair of the 1893 World Congress of the Deaf in Chicago. Invented a process that was used for years in the manufacture of steel.
