Born at Columbus, IN; deafened slowly until completely deaf in his teens; graduated the Indiana School for the Deaf, 1913; B.A. (1918) and honorary doctorate (1951) from Gallaudet College. Worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co, Akron, OH for 40 years in various assembly line, inspector, and labor counseling positions; was active in state and national associations of the deaf; died at Akron. Married to Dorothy Conover.
