Summary
Born in Philadelphia, deafened at 5 from meningitis. Entered the Lexington School for the deaf about age 7, graduating 1884. Received additional training at the Cooper Institute for Arts and Sciences. After finishing school, worked in a variety of Philadelphia architectural firms, then went into private practice. Became an accomplished photographer on the side.
