Summary
Born at Louisville, KY and deafened at 12. Kentucky School for the deaf 1875-1878. Made foreman of the school's book bindery 1880-1883, then resigned to pursue orange-growing in Florida. After initial success, he was wiped out by a great freeze in 1895. While in Florida, he also served terms as public school supervisor and as a postmaster. Giving up on Florida, he returned to Kentucky and was appointed keeper of the gardens and grounds at the Kentucky School.
