Gilbert, William "Bill"

Educated at Churchgate School for the Deaf, Leicester; left at age 15 to apprentice to a shoemaking company, remaining with them for 52 years of service until retirement at age 68. Active in the British Deaf Association and other deaf organizations. Also a champion cricket player.
