Born at Anna, IL; moved to Lincoln, NE at age 4; graduated the Nebraska School for the Deaf, 1919; attended Gallaudet College for 2 years, then attended University of Nebraska and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. After various jobs, became a staff artist for the Chicago Evening American, 1928. Married Barbara Edith Harding.
