Summary
Born at Wortsboro, NY; became deaf at age 6; attended the Michigan School for the deaf, but had to leave in 1883 due to eye problems. After treatment for his eyes in New York City, returned to Grand Rapids and went into printing there and at Memphis, TN, with various newspapers as a typesetter in Grand Rapids, MI, then successfully made the transition to linotype operator. Moved to Seattle, WA.
