Summary
Born deaf in North Carolina. The sixth child of ten children of Chang Bunker, who was one of the pair of original "Siamese Twins" and who had married a white American woman. Half-Asian, she attended the North Carolina school for "colored" deaf persons at Raleigh, graduating 1873. In 1868, she had married Zacharias Haynes, a deaf teacher in the Raleigh school. After graduation, she became a teacher at the Raleigh school also. She had a brother, also deaf, named Jesse Lafayette Bunker (q.v.).
