Summary
Born deaf near Codnor Park; attended the Royal Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, Derby, when went to work in the mines. His unusual nickname arose because nearly everything he did or touched somehow involved that number: repeatedly scoring 42 runs in cricket games, rasing several litters of 42 young rabbits, winning 42 prizes in competition, etc.
