Summary
Very hard of hearing (one source claims "legally deaf"), wears his hearing aids during league play and depends on lipreading to interpret the opposing team's strategy during face-offs. A native of Ottowa, Ontario. Plays defense. Entered pro hockey with the Winnipeg Jets, 1982-1989; played for the Pittsburgh Penguins 1989-1990; for Muskegon, Pittsburgh again, and the Calgary Flames during 1990-1991 season; Salt Lake City and Calgary again during 1991-1992; Ottowa Senators and New Haven 1992-1993; Las Vegas Thunder 1993-1995 (named team captain 1993-1994); San Jose (CA) Sharks 1995-1996; with Ottowa again and the Kansas City Blades in 1996-1997. Operates the Jim Kyte Hockey School for the Hearing Impaired in Ottowa during the summers. Married in 1993, has identical twin sons.
