Dudley, W. E.

Born at Waco, KY; deafened at 9 months of age by "rising in the ears". Entered the Kentucky School for the deaf at age 9, graduating 9 years later in 1891. Attended Gallaudet College for 5 years but did not graduate, receiving a "certificate of honorable dismissal". Was a member of the strong Gallaudet baseball and football teams 1893-1895. After leaving college, worked as a bookkeeper for a time, then an estimator and finally a mechanical engineer for a New York City contracting firm.
