Summary
Late-deafened. Sometimes known by the German form of his given name, as Friedrich Smetana. After occasional bouts with hearing difficulties, was deafened completely at age 50; afterwards, continued to compose some of his greatest works, including the Czech national anthem Ma Vlast (My Country); co-founder of a national concert hall in Prague; died at Prague.
