Summary
Born at Lawrence, KS; deafness began in early years, becoming total by age 10. He left hearing schools at that time (in the 6th grade) and did not return to school until his parents learned about the Kansas School for the Deaf 3 years later. Graduated the Kansas School after 4 years there, then graduated Gallaudet College 1930. During the Depression years, he took any kind of job he could get, but in 1943 finally went to work permanently for the Hercules Powder Co., eventually leaving in 1951 to work for a government laboratory in Olathe, KS.
