Born in Napiak Camp near Bethel, AK. Native American name was Tsikoyak, meaning "Blue Ice" from the color of her eyes. Attended mainstreaming programs in Anchorage and Bethel public schools. Made beadwork brooches, necklaces, and hair barrettes with traditional Indian motifs but often with the Deaf "ILY" incorporated also.
