              Summary
Born deaf to a deaf father. Received a basic education through home tutoring; his father, John Landseer, was an engraver and trained all 3 of his sons in that field. Apprenticed as a wood engraver, then worked for his hearing artist brother Edwin Landseer, turning Edwin's artwork into engravings in a London studio. He also was a "picture doctor", advising other artists on how to correct flaws in their own artwork, and is said to have given Queen Victoria some basic lessons in engraving. Died of head injuries suffered in a fall down a river bank.
