              Born at Sydney Forks, Nova Scotia; deaf at 8 from tuberculosis and spinal meningitis. 3 years at a school for the deaf in Halifax, NS, then a regular high school and to St. Francis Xavier University. Diploma in nutrition, 1966, from St. Michael's Hospital School of Dietitics in Toronto. Moved to the U.S. in 1969; worked as a nutritionist in a Boston hospital, then as an insurance company clerk. Later spent 5 years as a library assistant in Richmond, which prompted her to earn an MLS degree. Afterwards, worked for Microfilming Corporation of America in NC.
