Summary
Born at Manchester and became deaf at 2 from severe illness. An unusual number of deaf children among Manchester mill workers led to the founding of the Manchester Institution for the Deaf and Dumb in 1823, and Magson was one of its first pupils. After leaving school, worked as an administration clerk in the Manchester town hall, remaining for 40 years until retirement 1878. In his spare time, he was a volunteer missioner to the deaf of the Manchester area, holding deaf church services and helping to found the Manchester Adult Deaf and Dumb Society. After retirement, moved to Southport in 1880, but was persuaded to resume his missioner work there until 1890. Buried in the Cheetham Hill cemetary, Manchester.
