Summary
Born at San Juan Mission, NM; deafened at age 2 from mumps. Briefly attended the Bitsi Boarding School for Indians, but transferred to the New Mexico School for the Deaf in 1955, graduating 1965. Enrolled in the American Institute of Indian Arts, taking silversmith and art classes for a year. Entered Gallaudet College in 1967, but had to withdraw because of health problems with the Washington DC climate. Got a job as a masonry helper, learning the trade on the job.
