Summary
Late-deafened. To try to help other deaf people like himself, he opened a "mutual help and information" bureau in Paris. Also invented a "dactylophone" consisting of 42 keys, each of which caused a letter or numeral to stand up when pressed. This was to help deaf people communicate with each other and with the hearing.
