Summary
Born in Paris, France as Edouard Huet; deafened at age 12 and attended the national school for the deaf in Paris. Came to Brazil, Hispanized his first name, and in 1857 founded and directed a school for the deaf. He then opened the Escuela San Juan Letran, Mexico's first school for the deaf, in Mexico City, 1866. One source gives his first name as "Enrique", but this is an error. Died and was buried in Mexico City.
