Summary
Grew up in Yorkshire, England and attended the South Yorkshire Institute for the Deaf and Dumb at Doncaster. She met and married Thomas Widd (q.v.), and the two of them emigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal where he founded the Protestant Institution for Deaf-Mutes and the Blind (now the Mackay Centre for the Deaf). She served as matron and assistant teacher in her husband's school until Thomas' poor health forced them to move to the better climate of southern California. There, they both established the Ephphatha Mission for the Deaf, later renamed the Episcopal Gallaudet Mission. Died and is buried in Los Angeles.
