Born deaf at Snohomish, WA; attended mainstream public schools in Seattle, then 1965-1968 went to the Washington State School for the Deaf. Married to deaf man William Kalk; in 1971, they relocated to Burnaby, BC, though apparently she retained her American citizenship. Championship tenpin bowler, team winner of several regional and national tournaments; also became a tournament-winning curling player.
