Summary
In Detroit, police received a call about a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found Shaw holding a rake in the driveway of his home, seeming making threatening gestures with it. The police drew their guns, and despite the screams of neighbors and relatives that Shaw was deaf, shot him twice; he died of his wounds hours later. Police claimed later that they did not know Shaw was deaf, and the officers involved were exonerated.
