Miller, Hugh G.

Born at Shelby, NC; educated at the North Carolina school for the deaf, both at its original Raleigh location and after it moved to Morganton in 1894. After leaving school, worked as chief clerk in the Shelby post office, but had to give up that position after 2 years because of weak eyes. Bought a half interest in a failing local electric company, and turned around the company's fortunes.
