Summary
Hearing. Sent by the Catholic Church to do missionary work among the Annamites in French Indo-China (the Annamese, in present-day Vietnam). Encountering a deaf boy, he was inspired to send the boy, Jacques, to the National Institute for the Deaf in Paris. Upon Jacques' return, the two started a small school for other deaf Annamese.
