Born in Bracken Co., KY and became deaf age age 1. Student at the Indiana School for the deaf 1853-1856, then transferred to the Kentucky School for the deaf where he graduated in 1861. Appointed a teacher in the Kentucky School for over 30 years, beginning in 1866. Licensed by the state of KY to perform civil marriages.
