Homer, George

Born and died at Boston; deafened gradually at age 10; graduated the American School for the deaf in 1829. Was one of the founders of the Boston Deaf-Mute Christian Association; worked 40 years in the Boston Customs House and the Post Office. He and his deaf wife, Anna Maria, were prominent in their hearing son Sydney's autobiography, My Wife and I, in which noted songwriter Sidney Homer credited his deaf parents for much of his success in the music field.
