              Born deaf in the Ukraine; family emigrated to Manitoba, Canada when whe was 12. Attended the Manitoba School for the Deaf for only 1 year, leaving out of embarrassment at being placed with children much younger than herself. Around 1928, married a hearing man and lived with his family, but eventually separated from him with their 3 children. In 1942, at Matlock, MB, she started a relationship with another hearing man, who built for her a little house next door to his own. She subsisted on growing raspberries and vegetables, which she sold to the large population of summer cottage residents of Matlock. She also made and sold knitted and sewn craft creations of various kinds.
