Summary
Born at Savannah, Carroll County, IL; deafened at age 13 by illness. Wrote her first poems while a student at the Illinois School, 1859-69; married G.E. Fischer (q.v.) and lived in Omaha, NE until his death on July 4, 1904; after that, she divided her time between Rockford and Savannah, IL. In the late 1870s, she began a campaign to get women students admitted to Gallaudet College.
