Summary
Born at Antioch (now Andrews), IN; deaf at 2 from scarlet fever. Kansas School for the Deaf, 1883-1891, where he learned the trade of shoemaking. After graduation, opened a shoe shop at Oxford, KS in 1892. Learned a new trade, wallpaper hanging, in 1900, and was successful in that. Married Clara Woolsey, an Illinois School for the Deaf graduate, in 1894.
