Waugh, Evelyn Arthur St. John

Late deafened: in middle age, became increasingly deaf in his right ear, and carried an ear trumpet around with him for several years. Noted for satirical novels; his works include Brideshead Revisited, Decline and Fall, and Men at Arms, among many others.
