Summary
Born deaf at Clark's Harbour, NS; went to the Halifax Institution for the Deaf and Dumb 1884-1891. While still in school, began painting the seascapes and ships around him; self-taught in painting and art. In 1912, married Betenia Swim. Worked as a house painter 1916-1925, then turned to maritime painting; many of his works are exhibited in the Archelaus Smith Museum, Cape Sable Island, Centreville, NS.
