Summary
Born in Massachusetts; deaf at 14 from meningitis. Went to the Horace Mann School for the Deaf for 3 months, then transferred to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (Mt. Airy). Entered Gallaudet College at age 15; began wrestling as a student there despite his small stature and light weight; won several championships. Taught at the Arkansas School for the Deaf and started a wrestling team there. Went into watchmaking in Philadelphia, but gave that up due to weakening eyesight and took a new job with a transportation company for many years.
