Archibald, Kathryn Jennifer "Kathy"

Born in Montreal; adopted at age 7 months. Deafness was discovered later. Initial assessment and training at the John Tracy Clinic was followed by enrollment in the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf, 1956-1964. Transferred to a regular public school but eventually dropped out in frustration and disappointment. At first worked for a dog grooming parlor, then in 1970 opened her own dog grooming parlor. She soon expanded it to include obedience training, then expanded again to dog breeding. Moved her business in 1972 to Prince Edward Island, where her kennel operation became one of the most highly regarded in the country. Received a cochlear implant in 1998 because her parents would not always be around to handle her telephone calls and messages.
