Summary
Late deafened. Born near Maidsville, WV; deafened from illness while attending West Virginia Conference Seminary. Entered the South Carolina Co-Educational Institute, then studied at University of West Virginia 1901-1905. Continued art studies at the Art Students League in New York, 1907-1908, then visitied Europe in 1912-1913, when she found her niche as an artist. Opened an art school in WV in 1913-1915, then moved to Provincetown, MA for more art study and got into woodblock printing. Returned to Europe 1923-1924, when she was heavily influenced by Cubism. Back in the US, she continued her art work and even returned to school 1937-1938 to study Abstract Expressionism.
