              Deafness diagnosed at age 2; educated privately and at home. Studied under L. Bradac and in the National School of Graphic Art, Prague, and at Studium Pagnier-Meyreis, Paris. In 1929, opened an atelier in Prague; exhibited widely in Europe and the U.S., including in the International Exhibition of Fine and Applied Arts by Deaf Artists, 1934. The Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia and the postwar Communist takeover cut off news to the West about Hauner.
