Summary
Hard of hearing. Graduated regular high school in KS and graduated the University of Kansas. For 9 years, held the world record for running the mile, set on July 17, 1966; silver medalist in the 1500 meters, 1968 Olympics. Spokesperson for Better Hearing and Speech Month. Despite being hard of hearing all his life, he only began wearing hearing aids at about 45 years of age. 1984 autobiography, In Quest of Gold.
