Summary
Born in Rensselaer County, NY; deaf in early childhood. Central New York Institution for the deaf (Rome) 1876-1887; Gallaudet College 1887-graduation in 1892. Prominent in sports while at Gallaudet. After graduation, became a teacher at the North Dakota Institution for the deaf, where he also edited and printed the school's newspaper. After a few years, he returned to East Nassau, NY, to assist his father in operating a hotel. Married Cora A. Shutts, also a graduate of the Rome school.
