Newman, Henry

Born in New York City; family moved to Paris when he was very young. Became profoundly hard of hearing at age 5 from an ear infection, and moved back to American in 1929 to enter the Lexington School for the Deaf. Took art courses at the Cooper Union School of Art, then apprenticed with with two artists. For a living, became a designer of textiles, but continued his creative art on his own time. When he retired from his "day job" in 1983, his creative output increased as he moved to Miami Beach for the rest of his life.
