Summary
Born at Roseville, MI and deafened at age 7 by spinal meningitis. Attended the Lutheran School for the Deaf, Roseville Public High School, and the Michigan School for the Deaf. Graduated Gallaudet College (B.S., 1948); worked as a printer in Michigan 1948-1959, then became a Gallaudet faculty member teaching physics in 1959, eventually becoming Galllaudet's director of admissions and records. Involved with the American Athletic Association of the Deaf beginning 1958, and with the Comite International des Sports Sourds (CISS) beginning 1965, eventually becoming CISS president, and active in other international deaf sports organizations. Earned a private pilot's license during the 1950s.
