In 2006, was the mayor of Luddenden, a small town (population around 1,750) in West Yorkshire, England. This was a part-time job; his regular full-time job was as an employee of a bacon factory. He used British Sign Language (BSL), and reportedly several townspeople learned BSL in order to communicate with their mayor.
