              Born at Binghampton, NY; deaf at 12; attended public schools and the New York School for the Deaf at Malone. Graduated Gallaudet College, then was managing editor of the Coolidge [AZ] News until beginning a teaching career in 1938 at the Ohio School for the Deaf. Later taught at the New York School for the Deaf, Rome, and at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind; for a time, he also edited the Ohio Chronicle. Secretary-treasurer of the National Association of the Deaf for 18 years; an expert, award-winning marskman. Served as a deputy sheriff in St. Johns County, FL. Married to Rosalind Redfearn. Died when his car was struck by a train.
