Summary
Born at Aberdeen, WA; deaf at 15 from meningitis. Graduated the Washington State School for the Deaf, and Gallaudet College in 1932. Taught at the New York School for the Deaf, White Plains, and at the Lousiana School for the Deaf. During World War II, worked as a statistician for the U.S. Army Air Force and postwar for the U.S. Census Bureau. Master's from American University, 1946. Printer 1947-1956, then became a faculty member in business administration at Gallaudet until retirement in 1977. Honorary Doctor of Letters from Gallaudet in 1977. Married Florence Bridges, also deaf. Active in Gallaudet alumni activities and organizations. Wrote Deaf Persons in Professional Employment (1968); also editor of the deaf newspaper The Cavalier during the 1940s and 1950s, editor of the Gallaudet Record, and regular contributor to the American Annals of the Deaf.
